Garlic Cheese Bread
(aka death by butter, bread, and cheese)
-from melskitchencafe.com
- -5 garlic cloves, finely minced
- -8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, softened
- -1/2 teaspoon water
- -1/4 teaspoon salt
- -1/4 teaspoon pepper
- -1 18-20-inch baguette or loaf of french bread, sliced in half horizontally
- -1 1/2 cup shredded cheese (I used 3/4 cup mozzarella and 3/4 cup parmesan. Your options are endless)
-Heat 1 T. butter, garlic, and water in a skillet over low heat. Stir and cook until straw-colored, about 10 minutes. You want it kind of blond in color, but not burned. Remove from heat, and stir the hot garlic/butter into the remaining 7 T. butter, along with salt and pepper. Cut bread in half lengthwise, and evenly spread this sinful mixture across both halves. Reassemble bread like a sandwich, wrap in foil, place on a baking sheet, and bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and lay cut sides up. Sprinkle evenly with cheese and broil for 2 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbling (watch closely so it doesn't burn and ruin the culinary bliss). Cut into pieces and serve.
