Mom's Breakfast Smoothie
Smoothies are all the rage these days, right? And not just plain 'ole yogurt-fruit smoothies. People are adding nut butters, greens, and even raw oats to concoctions in search of a perfect meal replacement. My girls have started getting into this idea, and are enjoying some yogurt-based smoothies as an afternoon snack. I am even able to sneak in some oats and a scoop of protein powder without them scoffing, but we've yet to make it green. We'll have to work up to that. Anyway, while I was visiting my parents over the weekend, my mom made me a new smoothie that she has been enjoying and I fell in love. It is my new go-to breakfast to-go, and I headed straight to the store after we returned home to stock up on the simple ingredients it requires. Give it a go if you're game...
Mom's Breakfast Smoothie
-unsure of the origin
Blend together:
-1 cup dark chocolate almond milk (I am new to the almond milk world)
-1 banana
-1/4 c. raw oats (quick or old fashioned)
-handful of ice
While I enjoy this smoothie as-is, feel free to add a scoop of chocolate protein powder (if that is your thing) or maybe a spoonful of nut butter (if you are crazy and think that chocolate and peanut butter go together. I know I'm in the minority here, but seriously. Gross. Keep chocolate and peanut butter away from each other, OK?)
