Pink Lemonade
So what do you drink for the Kentucky Derby while your husband drinks the gross and unappetizing traditional mint julep? You drink fresh-squeezed pink lemonade with vodka. It's the only appropriate option, really. I apologize in advance that I have no photo of the pink lemonade vodka drinking, but I was too busy drinking it and chatting with my friend while our husbands drank the gross stuff and we ignored our kids' chaos bubbling up from the basement playroom. You don't really need a picture of pink lemonade anyway, do you? No, you don't. It's pretty. It's pink. It's fabulous when you make it yourself. And it's super fabulous with vodka. I will be making it all summer long. I bet it's even better if you drink it out of a Mason jar...
Old Fashioned Pink Lemonade
-from babble.com
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- 1 cup cranberry juice (100% juice, not cocktail)
- 5 more cups water
Bring 1 cup water and sugar to a boil in a small sauce pan and stir to dissolve sugar. Cool. Congratulations, you have just made simple syrup! Combine lemon juice, cranberry juice, and cooled syrup in a 2 quart pitcher. Add remaining 5 cups water and stir. If you are making it a grown up lemonade, put a shot (or two...) of vodka in a glass full of ice, top off with lemonade and float some fresh lemon slices for garnish. Cheers!
